South Sudan President to Present Country’s Position

– Kiir is expected to present his country’s final offer to Sudan, mainly on oil deal and key outstanding post-independence issues.
The Catholic Radio Network has reported quoting a reliable SPLM official who preferred to be unnamed.
Officials have said that the Juba leadership has offered to increase transit and refinery fees to ensure the two nations canagree on a friendly way to resume oil production.
The latest move by the president follows a recent offer by the Government of the Republic of South Sudan to the Republic of the Government of Sudan.
Offering an incredibly generous assistance package of about 8 billion US Dollars to the Khartoum Government in return for a speedy conclusion of the negotiations, the Government of South Sudan last week, presented its agreement on ‘Friendly Relations and Cooperation’ between South Sudan and Sudan.
The document proposed the recommencement of oil production in addition to reopening of borders so to allow free movement of people and goods across the border.
The official told the radio that President Mayardit will explain South Sudan’s position to the AU mediators to resolve the issues of oil, border, security and citizenship.
Earlier in May, the United Nations Security Council which mandates the African Union High Implementation Panel to impose sanctions in case negotiations fail gave the two nations three months to resolve their differences.
South Sudanese officials have accused the Khartoum administration of continuing to refuse the offer and instead keep demanding for higher figures which do not go with international standards
