PERTH, 24 July 2012 [Gurtong] –The South Sudanese community in Perth, Western Australia converged for the beauty pageant at Herb Graham Recreational Centre in Perth.
A total of seventeen young South Sudanese ladies took part in the contest.
The contestants opened the floor with what the organisers termed ‘unifying dance’ before embarking on a three round contest featuring a catwalk.
The different attires on display included African blends with some symbolic artefacts reflective of different South Sudanese cultures as well as western style evening dresses.
The third round was a talent contest featuring contestants displaying their chosen dances, songs, messages or activities.
A panel of five judges from multi-racial backgrounds judged every contestant’s skilful move.
At the hotly-pageantry, Miss Athou Makuach from Jonglei State emergedsecond runner up while Miss Betty Wani of Central Equatoria was the third runner up. Adut Dhol Acuil originally from Warrap was the fourth runner up.
The colourfulevent was organised by an international South Sudanese modelSarah Makur Chuot, who has been running the program for the last three years in different cities in Australia.
Her talents have seen her travel to New York, London, Durban and Pretoria among other glamorous cities of the world.
The beauty from Lakes State is full of humility and love for her country and is using her privileged status to mentor and boost confidence in young South Sudanese ladies.
The Chairperson of the South Sudanese Community Association of Western Australia Simon Yuer Dang expressed his gratitude and support for young ladies in their endeavours.
With tears of joy rolling her face, Miss Malesh was given a well deserved standing ovation by attendees.
Former Chairperson of the Youths Deng Mador Koch congratulated Miss Ayor Makur Chuot for her hard work and determination, saying that she has shown the spirit that was much needed in the South Sudanese society.

“Young people need support, encouragement and motivation to utilise their skills and talents in very positive ways”, said Koch.
A number of supporters and well-wishers from across the diverse Australian society attended the well organised event.
Those in attendance included the President of the African Women Group in Australia Dr Casta Tungaraza, who has been instrumental in supporting young African ladies in their drive for modelling and fashion, representatives of supporting agencies and Western Australian Police Service.

Malakal IDPs Desperately Need Relief Aid

The internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Malakal town desparately need relief assistnace.   March 2014 IDPs at a UNMISS clinic in Malakal. The IDPs say people are being killed daily when found from their hideouts. IDPs in the United Nations' compound said their colleagues in churches and hiding in their houses risk being killed as the rebels still control Malakal town. Malakal fell into the hands of the Anti-government forces led by the country's ex-vice president Dr. Riek Machar, now turned rebel leader since mid-February after they overan the government forces there. "People are suffering. They have no food and water to drink. The town is looted," an IDP lamented. "So, there is no hope of life for those who are now in Churches and in their hideouts in town.&q
